There's a snake in my garage right now — what do I do?

Do you kill snakes?

No. Non-venomous snakes are relocated, and even venomous captures are handled and released according to state regulations. Killing the snake also leaves the rodent population that attracted it.

How did it get inside?

Almost always a ground-level gap: a worn garage door seal, an unscreened crawlspace vent, a plumbing penetration, or a foundation crack. Snakes don't chew — they use what's already open.

Can you keep them out for good?
