Squirrels

Squirrel removal and chew-proof exclusion.

Squirrels are the most persistent chewers we deal with. A gray squirrel will spend days opening a gap the width of a pencil into a hole it can slip through, then bring in litter after litter through the same worn entry. Their incisors never stop growing, which means the wood trim, the vent screen, and — far too often — the wiring insulation all become chew material.

Typical range: $325–$1,400 depending on entry count, trim repair, and attic cleanup

Signs you have squirrels

  • Fast scampering and rolling sounds in the morning and late afternoon
  • Chewed fascia board, corner trim, or a shredded gable vent screen
  • Nesting material — leaves, insulation, shredded paper — in the attic
  • Repeated roofline traffic on the same path every day
  • Acorn or nut caches in soffits and attic corners

Why waiting costs more

  • Chewed wiring insulation, a genuine and documented fire hazard
  • Damaged vent screens that open the attic to every other pest
  • Nesting debris blocking soffit airflow and raising cooling costs
  • Fast reinfestation — squirrels are diurnal and highly territorial

Two litters a year — late winter and midsummer — drive the two big call waves. Fall caching season brings a third bump.

How our squirrel removal process works

1. Map the travel route

We follow the roofline path back to the entry, then check every other vent, return, and construction gap the colony has been testing.

2. Handle the nest

Spring and late-summer litters are removed by hand before any one-way work — pups sealed inside a wall are the reason so many DIY jobs end in an odor call.

3. One-way eviction

One-way doors on the active entry let adults leave on their normal feeding schedule and lock them out. No poisons, no attic traps left sitting for days.

4. Steel-backed sealing

Every entry and every soft spot gets sealed with heavy-gauge mesh and metal flashing behind the finish work. Foam and caulk alone last about a week against incisors.

Squirrels in the soffit off Westheimer

Luis found the entry point in 15 minutes — a chewed gable vent I'd missed for a year. Exclusion mesh, one-way door, follow-up visit. Straightforward pricing, no upsell.

Bat colony removed the right way

Trevor explained the whole maternity-season timeline and didn't try to rush the exclusion. Waited until pups could fly, sealed the ridge cap, guano cleanup was thorough. Have not heard a scratch in the attic since.

Rats in the garage — Logan Square

Ryan didn't just bait. He mapped the burrows, sealed the foundation gaps behind the trash cans, and coordinated with the alderman's rat abatement. Three months clean. Very Chicago-savvy.

Ana C.Chicago, IL · May 2026

Raccoon in the attic — gone in 48 hours

Marcus showed up two hours after I called, showed me exactly where she was getting in above the soffit, set a one-way door and sealed six other gaps I didn't even know existed. No more scratching. Written warranty. Worth every dollar.

Priya S.Atlanta, GA · May 2026

Raccoons in the soffit near Bayshore

Alex crawled the entire soffit line, found three entry points I didn't know about, set a one-way and sealed the rest with heavy mesh. Warranty on the exclusion. Straight shooter.

Nate B.Tampa, FL · May 2026

Flying squirrels in East Nashville

Cole diagnosed flying squirrels (not roof rats — I would've bought poison and made it worse). Set traps in the right runs, sealed the fascia gap, checked back twice. Very knowledgeable.

Squirrel Removal questions we get every week

Why do I only hear them in the morning and evening?

Squirrels are daytime animals with sharp activity peaks after sunrise and before dusk. If your noise is at 2 a.m., you're likely hearing rats or a raccoon instead — the schedule is one of the fastest ways to identify what's up there.

Can they really start a fire?

Chewed wiring insulation is a well-documented ignition source in attic fires. It's the main reason we treat a squirrel job as urgent rather than a nuisance call.

Will one-way doors hurt them?

No. The animal exits through its usual route on its own schedule and simply can't re-enter. We only use them once we've confirmed no dependent young are inside.

How long does the whole job take?

Most homes are one inspection visit, two to five days of one-way exclusion, and one repair visit. Larger attics with heavy chew damage add a restoration day.
